Charles I. D. Looff’s Brooklyn factory
Wood carvers are at work in the Brooklyn, New York factory of master carver Charles I. D. Looff. The master carver creates the heads of the carousel animals he has designed; journeymen carvers are assigned to carve and assemble the bodies. It was said that an expert carver could go through wood like a table knife through butter. Still, it was a daunting task, this business of creating carousel animals out of wood.
