The Patriotic Immigrant
Many carousel carvers were immigrant craftsmen, skilled in making furniture in the countries of their origin—some even carved mastheads for ships. Patriotic immigrants who worked for carousel builders at the turn of the century decorated animals with carvings of the American eagle or the American flag.
